Challenge on!
It’s 87 degrees, and I am on my 14th lap around a high school track. Whose idea was this?
Oh, mine. I’d wanted a fitness challenge. I’ve always been athletic, but I was in a slump. I’d been Spinning, running and hiking, but that didn’t seem to be having a big impact on my body or fitness level. I felt as if my efforts were all for nothing and maybe shoe shopping with my sister Shade would be a better use of time.
What could I do if I pushed past my limits? Could I get leaner? More toned? When SELF invited me to be on the cover, I told the editors I wanted to try training like an athlete. Good news: They loved the idea and said they had the perfect trainer for me. Bad news: I had only five weeks until the cover shoot, during which I’d be traveling a lot. I panicked.

Lauren Graham Answers Hard Questions from Fans
Lauren, my daughters and I had such fun watching your mother/daughter adventures on Gilmore Girls. Do you dream of having a daughter of your own?” —Robin V., Calabasas, CALG: Sure. I love having kids in my life. And it’s not at all the same, but I know a lot of teenagers — more than some moms I know — and I’ve been really, really lucky to have two amazing kids on my show who I love spending time with. Of course, Alexis [Bledel, who played her daughter on Gilmore Girls] will always be my first.
You so often play a woman unlucky in love I think all of your fans would love to see you enjoy a ‘happily ever after.’ Do you want to get married?”—Maria L., San AntonioLG: I admire that kind of commitment. I’m enjoying where I am right now and I’m open to whatever happens in the future.
What’s something that no one knows about you?” —Natalie W., Aiken, SC
LG: I am an avid cookbook reader. My most recent favorite is one from David Chang called Momofuku [after his Asian noodle bar]. It’s really difficult, but Asian food is some of my favorite. I also watch every cooking show and feel that someday it will sink in.
Do you think you would ever play a role against type like a prostitute or a stripper?”—Tory M., Naples FL
LG: I haven’t made any moral or ethical choices as an actor; it’s just [that these are the roles that have] come to me. Unfortunately for my range, I don’t think I have a face of evil!

Lauren Covers Emmy Magazine #2
Lauren Graham is looking lovely on the cover of Emmy magazine’s Issue No. 2, on newsstands Tuesday, April 6!
Here’s what the 43-year-old Parenthood actress had to share:
On the end of Gilmore Girls: “People still say to me that they haven’t watched the final episode because they don’t want it to be over. You have to be proud of something that captures people’s imagination like that.”
On real life parenthood: “If I met someone who had children, that would be really exciting to me. But at the same time, my sister’s my family, my grandmother’s my family, my godson is my family. I have a really full life, and I’m really happy with what I have.”
On signing on for Parenthood: “You make a list of all the things you want, but what you really want is to fall in love with somebody. You want a good partnership with a writer who is a good storyteller and can write for you. After I read the pilot, I felt this show is something I could spend years on and feel challenged and represented.”

Lauren in More Magazine
Lauren in on the cover of the March issue for More Magazine! The photoshoot is taken by Matthew Rolston.
Who says being single means you’re not completely successful? Lauren Graham does not agree – and neither do we.
Lauren Graham has dated a slew of well-known actors — Marc Blucas, Tate Donovan, and Matthew Perry, to name a few — but at 42, the former Gilmore Girl star still hasn’t settled down — and is actually fine with that, thank you very much.“What is so funny to me is I’m in a profession where two percent of people are working,” Lauren explains in the March issue of More magazine, adding, “Yet there’s still this implication that you’re not completely successful if you’re single and in your forties. Well, why not? I wanted a horse when I was growing up too. Does that mean I’m not successful, because I don’t have a horse?”
